The Löwengang Chardonnay has played a major role in the success of the wine estate and in establishing Alto Adige's status as a quality wine region. In the 1980s it became the first white wine from the region to be successfully positioned at an international level. The vineyard comprises several smaller plots, which every year react differently to the influences of the local climate. It is our task to respond accordingly and combine them in such a way that a new masterpiece is created with every vintage.

The name of the Löwengang wine estate derives from the historical residence of the same name in Magrè, which has been in the possession of the Lageder family since 1934. The estate includes vineyards on the talus cone in the village at the foot of steep rock faces composed of dolomite that formed millions of years ago. Chardonnay, Carmenère and Cabernet grapes were grown in Magrè 150 years ago already. That is what persuaded Alois III to purchase the estate, at a time when wine-growing in the region was dominated by Schiava and Lagrein Kretzer.
Thanks to the experience gathered over the last thirty years, we now have a number of exciting and more resistant grape varieties at our disposal, which are the foundation of our two Casòn Hirschprunn wines.
We are committed to the biodynamic agriculture, which respects human beings, animals and the natural cycles and incorporates them into our work.
